Last week, Sporting Futures won the ‘Service to Sport’ award at the Derby Telegraph Sports Awards.
Before our recent merge with Derby County Community Trust, we were nominated in the county sports awards for 'Service to Sport' in recognition of the work we do in some of the most deprived areas of the county to provide young people with opportunities in sport.
There are thousands of children and young people across the county who can’t participate in sport, often due to cost and travel. We help these young people overcome these barriers by providing free, multi-sports activities in community spaces which can be accessed by all.
As well as providing sporting activity for young people, our main fundraiser – the Derby 10K – is Derby’s biggest mass participation event and continues to attract thousands of runners each year. The event is in its 18th year and attracts over 5,000 participants annually.
The Service to Sport Award was given to an individual or organisation who has changed the quality of life and improved the health of Derbyshire people, which Sporting Futures have done across our 23 year history.
Now as part of the Trust, we will strengthen and widen their Community Engagement offering, complement existing Education programmes and bring our events and fundraising knowledge to help us improve the lives of more people than ever.
