8 weeks ago we began our second Toyota Road to Success programme, taking on our first project in South Derbyshire. As always, the time we’ve spent with this project’s young people has had its challenges and triumphs, but 8 weeks on we are so proud of how much every participant has progressed towards their own goals.
This project saw us work with new partners in the local area, including East Midlands Airport and the South Derbyshire School Sports Partnership. Not only did the young people benefit from the experiences, especially by volunteering at the SSP Community Day, but it has given us the chance to forge new relationships which can extend beyond the project, and increase the activity of Sporting Futures in the south of the county.
Beyond these new working partnerships, the project has given opportunity to 8 young local young people, who have taken the chances they’ve been given and ran with them. Their dedication and commitment to the project was outstanding, with a 100% retention rate achieved by one of our employability projects for the first time ever. Three individuals had found employment before the project ended, with the other five actively seeking routes back into education or training too.
All our projects culminate with a celebration of the achievements of the young people who have taken part, and the amount achieved in the 8 weeks we were joined by Cassie, Chloe, John, Paige, James, Cayleigh, Kieran and Andrew were fantastic.
The end of the Road to Success round 2 is by no means an end to us working with these young people. As they continue to develop and gain roles they are aiming for we will support them through this process and continue to see at least two of them on a regular basis as they now official Sporting Futures volunteers! Plus the framed photos they bought for project leads Jodie and Dave are already firmly in place in the Sporting Futures office.
The future is bright for the young people who took part in this project and we look forward to hearing exactly how much they achieve in the coming weeks, as we have no doubt that they can and will all continue to gain employment in the fields they want to work in.
