Derby 10K 2020 Cancellation

1st September 2020

Since the decision in March 2020 to postpone the Derby 10K to 25th October 2020, we have been consulting with other major UK mass participation event organisers, the local authority, safety advisors, Derby County Football Club and medical teams to investigate all avenues to stage our event whilst adhering to all relevant Covid-19 legislation and government guidance.

Despite our best efforts to find a number of options which could ensure the event would be able to take place, we have concluded that sadly due to the numbers involved in the event, it is not feasible to stage the Derby 10K as we had hoped and planned on Sunday 25th October.

Though the Derby 10K on Sunday 25th October will not be taking place in its usual format, we are looking forward hosting our first ever virtual event.

All runners will be able to take part, receive your race T-shirt (if this hasn’t yet been received), your finishers’ medal and an official standing in our virtual ranks.

There will also be options to kindly donate your entry fee to Derby County Community Trust’s numerous projects or roll over entries to 2021. Information on all the options available to you as runners will be communicated by email in the coming days. Those responsible for group entrants (business teams and Jog Derbyshire groups) will be contacted directly.

We want to reiterate that this is not the decision we wanted to make as we are extremely proud of the Derby 10K, the impact it has on the city and crucially the key funds it raises for our charity.

However, as ever, safety has to remain paramount and there is no possible way for us to accurately monitor distance between participants or be confident that this can be ensured between runners – even with best intentions. It would be a huge burden on our health service if over 5000 runners could potentially need to be contacted at any point following the race.

We apologise to all our runners, spectators, sponsors and partners and can't wait to see you at future events and hope you will enjoy our first ever virtual event. Your support continues to help Derby County Community Trust to raise vital funds for our invaluable projects.
